What Is a Domestic House Lift?

While everyone is familiar with the commercial lifts in public buildings and businesses, a home lift serves the same purpose—transporting people between floors—but is specifically designed for private residences.
There are various designs of domestic house lifts available. At Only Lifts, we offer the Mini, Midi, and Maximus versions of the Airlevator by PVE, one of the most compact and unique lifts in the world. No matter the size of your home or your reasons for installing a home lift, we have the perfect design to meet your needs.

How Much Do Domestic Lifts Cost?

Installing a lift is a significant investment for most homeowners, but modern designs are much more affordable than they were ten years ago.Prices typically range from £12,950 to £60,000 (+VAT). We understand that’s quite a range! Several factors determine the cost of a lift, including the drive system (hydraulic, traction, pneumatic, chain, or rack and pinion), the quality of materials, and the finish. Additionally, you may incur some building costs to ensure proper installation.
Some homeowners, such as those who are disabled or suffer from a chronic illness, may be exempt from paying VAT on their lift if they meet certain criteria. For more details on the factors affecting lift costs, read our blog.
Always ask for an itemized quote to budget accurately. Remember to include the cost of delivery, installation, and any necessary building work, in addition to the price of the lift.
At Only Lifts, the price we quote is the price you pay—no hidden fees, no last-minute extra costs, and no unexpected labour charges.

Commonly Asked Questions

The noise level of Home Lifts depends on the drive system you choose and where the drive mechanism is located. Some designs are quieter without any ‘extra effort’ however, even those with a slightly louder drive mechanism can be quietened to the same level using our clever design techniques and the use of acoustic jackets and sound-dampening technology. Overall our home lifts are much quieter than many other domestic machines such as dishwashers, washing machines etc. Also, bear in mind they only run for a few seconds during use.

Yes, modern home lifts are very safe. When properly installed to code — and with the required safety measures in place — home lifts provide a high level of safety. While it’s possible to be stuck in the cabin, there are safety measures — such as backup power and manual control — that ensure this only lasts for a few seconds. Make sure the company you choose is authorised to sell the product and has sufficiently trained engineers to install and maintain it.

The timeframe for installing a home lift largely depends on the type of lift you want. Installing a traditional hydraulic home lift, for example, can take as long as 1 – 2 weeks due to the machinery required to power the lift. On the other hand, a Stiltz home lift takes only 1 – 2 days to install because of its minimal installation requirements.
